Summer is a great time to experiment out doors. This is a fun engineering project will allow you to bake using only the sun's energy. You'll need a sunny day (not necessarily a hot one) and a "subject" (something your baking) to test on. Do some research on ways to attract and retain the sun's energy and then give this a try. Materials:
Parent Tip: If you choose to make cookies in your solar oven make sure you use the pasteurized, pre-made cookie dough you can purchase at the grocery store - that way if they are under cooked, they are still edible. How To Links & Explanation: Here is the link to the instructions and explanation. Thanks to Home Science Tools for this activity. Share Your Experience: If you do this experiment feel free to share about your experience in the comments section below. Happy Sciencing! One of my students did a solar oven project as part of a scouting activity and suggested this site as another great reference. Check it out!

Every school day I will post a new experiment for you to try at home. Some may be familiar to you - as they are my favorites from class - but most will be experiments I found on the web that have readily available materials. Happy Sciencing! Earn a Patch
