I think many of us (myself included) are realizing that we were not washing our hands as often or as well as we should have been. Want to see how you're doing? I've got a great experiment for you to test your hand washing skills at home with supplies you probably have. Materials:
Parent Tip: Do this experiment in the evening after your kids have been "collecting" germs all day. Here is the link to the instructions. Thanks to CS Mott Children's Hospital for this link. Here are pictures of the results of an experiment conducted in a classroom. Thanks to Science Alert for this link. What's Happening: Your hands pick up dirt, grease, and germs from everything they touch during the day. When you wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, all that gunk gets washed off and sent down the drain leaving you with clean hands. Germs can include bacteria, viruses (like the current Covid-19), and mold spores that can make you sick. Bread is a perfect "home" for mold spores. They "eat" the bread as they grow. If you have mold spores on your hands and you touch the bread, the mold spores will grow into moldy spots on the bread that are large enough for you to see. Share Your Experience: If you do this experiment feel free to post pictures in the comments section below. Happy Hand Washing!
